  • Özler, Şule; Gabrinetti, Paul (2018): Psychoanalytic studies and the work of Adam Smith. Towards a theory of moral development and social relations. London: Routledge (Psychoanalytic explorations)

Abstract: Psychoanalytic Studies of the Work of Adam Smith blends the rich intellectual heritage of the hermeneutic tradition with the methods and concepts of psychoanalysis, in order to examine the seminal works of Adam Smith. This is the first book on Smith to analyze the works of the ground-breaking moral theorist and founding father of economics from a psychoanalytic perspective, whilst also examining the human capacities and skills that are necessary to put Smith's ideas into practice. Starting with a detailed discussion of the psychological difficulties that afflicted Smith, Ozler and Gabrinetti examine the influence that Smith's life had on the ideas that are found in his major works. The authors explore the sympathetic process in Smith's The Theory of Moral Sentiments (TMS) from an intersubjectivist perspective and use ideas from developmental psychology to argue that sympathy leads to morality. This book contains a thorough analysis of the defenses that are used to create Smith's moral system in the TMS and explores how Smith's ideas were precursors to concepts later developed by Freud. The authors show that Smith's attitude toward women was at best ambivalent and consider the reciprocal interaction between markets and morality from an evolutionary psychology perspective. Covering an impressive range of topics, this book will appeal to academics and postgraduate students with an interest in psychoanalysis, moral philosophy, history of thought and the social sciences. The book should also be of interest to more advanced undergraduate students. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2018 APA, all rights reserved) zitiert von: 1

  • Walz Pawlita, Susanne (2016): Frauen und Macht. In: Psychoanalytische Familientherapie 17 (1), S. 39-52

  • Schneewind, Klaus A. (2015) : Socialization and Education. Theoretical Perspectives In: Wright, James D.: International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences (Second Edition): Oxford: Elsevier, S. 861-865

Abstract: In this article, first, four perspectives in studying the processes of socialization and education, that is, chronological, topical, institutional, and cultural points of view, are briefly addressed. Then, three major groups of theories, namely biological theories (sociobiology and evolutionary psychology), psychological theories (psychoanalytic, attachment, epigenetic, and learning theories), and sociological theories (structural functionalism, symbolic interactionism, and conflict theories), are described in greater detail. Finally, an integrative framework for studying socialization and education is offered based on five aspects: units of environmental influence, characteristics of individuals, proximal processes, goals and values, and self-socialization. zitiert von 20

  • Lesmeister, Roman (2008): Grundlagen von Moral und Ethik in der Analytischen Psychologie. In: Analytische Psychologie 39 (1), S. 50-69

Abstract: The relationship of the biogenetic and socio- or psychogenem roots of the moral Constitution is discussed on the basis of new findings in the field of neurobiology. The paths of depth-psychological theory-construction lead from there on the one hand to Freud, whose oedipal mythos of cultural development allows morality to emerge from coming to terms with drive-conflicts. It becomes apparent that alongside super-ego theory a second theory is discernible, i.e. the source of moral regulation which is inherent to the Eros of the last drive theory and independent of the super-ego concept. C. G. Jung Stands out against the backdrop of Freudian and Kleinian theory to form an ethic which is based upon archetypical foundations and is bound to the ambivalent voice of the self. To Jung, it is from this that the extreme ambiguity arises which inheres in moral conflicts and constitutes the unavoidable fallibility of conscience decisions. The idea is elaborated upon that the meaning of inter-personality and the dynamic of moral feelings does not receive enough attention in Jung's model of a primary-moral and individualized ethics. An extension in the sense of a relationship ethic would appear necessary, whereto the concepts of the depressive position (Klein) could be drawn upon. In conclusion, the exalted significance of moral conflicts in Jung's works and in related postmodern ethical concepts is contrasted with the demonstrably intuitive surety of our knowledge of good and evil in morally relevant decisions.

  • Maier, Thomas (2006): Psychosocial and psychodynamic factors influencing health care utilisation. In: Health care analysis : HCA : journal of health philosophy and policy 14 (2), S. 69-78. DOI: 10.1007/s10728-006-0013-9

    DOI: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17195575

Abstract: This paper aims to elucidate some dysfunctional aspects of health care utilisation by combining concepts from modern systems theory and from psychoanalysis. Contemporary health care in industrialised countries can be conceived as a social system in terms of modern systems theory. According to this theory, social systems are operating on the basis of a 'guiding difference,' which in the case of health care is the distinction between 'healthy' and 'ill.' Its rigidity in adhering to the healthy-ill dichotomy exposes health care to being collusively entangled in the interpersonal defence arrangements of patients. In the psychoanalytic view, individual conflicts can be warded off from consciousness not only by intrapsychic defence, but also by interpersonal defence mechanisms. These mechanisms involve the patients' close social environment, often including doctors and hospitals. The functioning and the motivational structure of health care itself shows features of neurotic defence: not only its representatives, but health care as a whole act in a rigid, obsessive manner in order to separate the healthy from the ill and to battle against (presumed) diseases. This obsession sometimes results in excessive diagnostic activism and in inconsiderate application of aggressive medical treatments. Both are inappropriate with regard to the salient problem of modern medicine: the increase of chronic nonfatal diseases like depression and chronic pain. The described defence mechanisms are unconscious not only to patients but also to health care professionals (let alone health politicians), and are contributing to dysfunctional health care overuse.

  • Ebrecht, Angelika; Wöll, Andreas (Hg.) (1998): Psychoanalyse, Politik und Moral. Tübingen: Edition diskord (Perspektiven : Forschungsbeiträge zu Geschichtswissenschaft, Pädagogik, Philosophie, Psychologie, Psychotherapie und Soziologie)

Abstract: Verbindungen zwischen Psychoanalyse, Politik und Moral werden behandelt. - Inhalt: (A) Moralpsychologie und Kulturtheorie.
