Jahrhundert

Abstract: Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich im Rahmen des Projekts Arbeitsteilung Entwickler-Operateur mit Entwicklern von Assistenzsystemen.

    DOI: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18505318

Abstract: Four studies implemented a componential approach to assessing self-enhancement and contrasted this approach with 2 earlier ones: social comparison (comparing self-ratings with ratings of others) and self-insight (comparing self-ratings with ratings by others). In Study 1, the authors varied the traits being rated to identify conditions that lead to more or less similarity between approaches. In Study 2, the authors examined the effects of acquaintance on the conditions identified in Study 1. In Study 3, the authors showed that using rankings renders the self-insight approach equivalent to the component-based approach but also has limitations in assessing self-enhancement. In Study 4, the authors compared the social-comparison and the component-based approaches in terms of their psychological implications; the relation between self-enhancement and adjustment depended on the self-enhancement approach used, and the positive-adjustment correlates of the social-comparison approach disappeared when the confounding influence of the target effect was controlled.

Abstract: A dyadic methodological and statistical approach to social power is used to test the notion that an individual’s power and a partner’s power have distinct effects on the individual’s emotional experience. Two studies examined actor and partner effects of social power on emotion within dyadic interactions. Across interpersonal contexts and measures of social power, the individual’s own social power, theorized to activate behavioral approach, was associated with positive emotion (an actor effect). In contrast, being subject to a partner’s elevated social power, theorized to activate behavioral inhibition, was associated with increased negative emotion (a partner effect). The discussion focuses on how dyadic methodological and statistical approaches point to new lines of inquiry in the study of social power. zitiert von: 82

  • Lesmeister, Roman (2008): Grundlagen von Moral und Ethik in der Analytischen Psychologie. In: Analytische Psychologie 39 (1), S. 50-69

Abstract: The relationship of the biogenetic and socio- or psychogenem roots of the moral Constitution is discussed on the basis of new findings in the field of neurobiology. The paths of depth-psychological theory-construction lead from there on the one hand to Freud, whose oedipal mythos of cultural development allows morality to emerge from coming to terms with drive-conflicts. It becomes apparent that alongside super-ego theory a second theory is discernible, i.e. the source of moral regulation which is inherent to the Eros of the last drive theory and independent of the super-ego concept. C. G. Jung Stands out against the backdrop of Freudian and Kleinian theory to form an ethic which is based upon archetypical foundations and is bound to the ambivalent voice of the self. To Jung, it is from this that the extreme ambiguity arises which inheres in moral conflicts and constitutes the unavoidable fallibility of conscience decisions. The idea is elaborated upon that the meaning of inter-personality and the dynamic of moral feelings does not receive enough attention in Jung's model of a primary-moral and individualized ethics. An extension in the sense of a relationship ethic would appear necessary, whereto the concepts of the depressive position (Klein) could be drawn upon. In conclusion, the exalted significance of moral conflicts in Jung's works and in related postmodern ethical concepts is contrasted with the demonstrably intuitive surety of our knowledge of good and evil in morally relevant decisions.

Abstract: This study investigates the extent to which students from Australia, Israel, and China report that their teachers' classroom disciplinary behaviour affects their attitudes towards schoolwork and the teacher. They also report how justifiable a teacher's intervention appeared. In all three settings, both punishment and aggression relate significantly to the level of students' distraction and negative affect towards the teacher. Teachers' recognition of responsible behaviour and discussion with students relate to less distraction and greater belief that the intervention was necessary. Hinting and the involvement of students in classroom discipline decision making relate to a stronger belief that the disciplinary actions. taken are warranted. Implications are discussed. Abstract: The understanding of the micro-macro link is an urgent need in the study of social systems. The complex adaptive nature of social systems adds to the challenges of understanding social interactions and system feedback and presents substantial scope and potential for extending the frontiers of computer-based research tools such as simulations and agent-based technologies. In this project, we seek to understand key research questions concerning the interplay of ethical trust at the individual level and the development of collective social moral norms as representative sample of the bigger micro-macro link of social systems. We outline our computational model of ethical trust (CMET) informed by research findings from trust, machine ethics and neural science. Guided by the CMET architecture, we discuss key implementation ideas for the simulations of ethical trust and social moral norms.

  • Luhmann, Niklas (2008): Die Moral der Gesellschaft. Orig.-Ausg., 1. Aufl..

  • Lynch, Richard A. (2008): The Alienating Mirror. Toward a Hegelian Critique of Lacan on Ego-Formation. In: Human Studies 31 (2), S. 209-221. DOI: 10.1007/s10746-008-9083-z

Abstract: This article brings out certain philosophical difficulties in Lacan's account of the mirror stage, the initial moment of the subject's development. For Lacan, the "original organization of the forms of the ego" is "precipitated" in an infant's self-recognition in a mirror image; this event is explicitly prior to any social interactions. A Hegelian objection to the Lacanian account argues that social interaction and recognition of others by infants are necessary prerequisites for infants' capacity to recognize themselves in a mirror image. Thus mutual recognition with another, rather than self-recognition in a mirror, is what makes possible subsequent ego-formation and self-consciousness. This intersubjective critique suggests that many of the psychoanalytic consequences that Lacan derives from the mirror stage (e.g., alienation, narcissism, and aggressivity) may need to be rethought.

Abstract: The present article investigates the effectiveness of methods traditionally used to distinguish between the emotions of regret and disappointment and presents a new method--the Regret and Disappointment Scale (RDS)--for assessing the two emotions in decision making research. The validity of the RDS was tested in three studies. Study 1 used two scenarios, one prototypical of regret and the other of disappointment, to test and compare traditional methods ('How much regret do you feel' and 'How much disappointment do you feel') with the RDS. Results showed that only the RDS clearly differentiated between the constructs of regret and disappointment. Study 2 confirmed the validity of the RDS in a real-life scenario, in which both feelings of regret and disappointment could be experienced. Study 2 also demonstrated that the RDS can discriminate between regret and disappointment with results similar to those obtained by using a context-specific scale. Study 3 showed the advantag es of th e RDS over the traditional methods in gambling situations commonly used in decision making research, and provided evidence for the convergent validity of the RDS. Abstract: This learning process is neither abstract nor academic in nature. What is being learned is how to comport oneself in the world. Followership is about saying and doing the right things. Followership is acting properly and well in a given situation. It is doing and saying what the situation dictates. This is what the ancients called eloquence and decorum, saying and doing the right things. What we might call walking the talk. As such, followership is an ethical and moral discipline and must be taught and learned as such. This chapter examines leadership and the ethics of followership. DOI: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18635380

Abstract: Philosophical (p-) zombies are constructs that possess all of the behavioral features and responses of a sentient human being, yet are not conscious. P-zombies are intimately linked to the hard problem of consciousness and have been invoked as arguments against physicalist approaches. But what if we were to invert the characteristics of p-zombies? Such an inverse (i-) zombie would possess all of the behavioral features and responses of an insensate being, yet would nonetheless be conscious. While p-zombies are logically possible but naturally improbable, an approximation of i-zombies actually exists: individuals experiencing what is referred to as "anesthesia awareness." Patients under general anesthesia may be intubated (preventing speech), paralyzed (preventing movement), and narcotized (minimizing response to nociceptive stimuli). Thus, they appear--and typically are--unconscious. In 1-2 cases/1000, however, patients may be aware of intraoperative events, sometimes without any objective indices. Furthermore, a much higher percentage of patients (22% in a recent study) may have the subjective experience of dreaming during general anesthesia. P-zombies confront us with the hard problem of consciousness--how do we explain the presence of qualia? I-zombies present a more practical problem--how do we detect the presence of qualia? The current investigation compares p-zombies to i-zombies and explores the "hard problem" of unconsciousness with a focus on anesthesia awareness.

Abstract: The articles published in Landscape and Urban Planning during the past 16 years provide valuable insights into how humans interact with outdoor urban environments. This review paper explores the wide spectrum of human dimensions and issues, or human needs, addressed by 90 of these studies. As a basis for analysis, the major themes tapped by the findings were classified into two overarching groups containing three categories each. The Nature needs, directly linked with the physical features of the environmental setting, were categorized in terms of contact with nature, aesthetic preference, and recreation and play. The role of the environment is less immediate in the Human-interaction group, which includes the issues of social interaction, citizen participation in the design process, and community identity. Most significantly, the publications offer strong support for the important role nearby natural environments play in human well-being. Urban settings that provide nature contact are valuable not only in their own right, but also for meeting other needs in a manner unique to these more natural settings. In addition, although addressed in different ways, remarkable similarities exist concerning these six people requirements across diverse cultures and political systems. Urban residents worldwide express a desire for contact with nature and each other, attractive environments, places in which to recreate and play, privacy, a more active role in the design of their community, and a sense of community identity. The studies reviewed here offer continued evidence that the design of urban landscapes strongly influences the well-being and behavior of users and nearby inhabitants.

Abstract: The effects of familiarity have received little attention in the areas of public relations. This study used structural equation modeling (SEM) to predict the influence of familiarity on corporate equity, which is measured by willingness to invest in a corporation or purchase its products or services using several mediating variables such as citizenship, reputation, and personality. The Roper Corporate Reputation Scorecard was used to study these variables using an online panel survey from NOP World of 1500 participants. Results found familiarity does have a positive relationship in each industry regarding citizenship, reputation, and personality. In addition, the latter three variables had a significant positive effect on corporate equity.
